1815 - 1817

US sailors marched across the Sahara Desert after enslavement by the Bedouins.

Before rescue, one man tried to eat his own arm and other crew drank camel urine because of extreme dehydration and severe starvation.








Hugh Glass
1823

American fur trapper and frontiersman mauled by a Grizzly Bear and abandoned by his companions.

Unable to walk, he crawls for six months and 100 miles before reaching safety.








Aron Ralston
2003

American hiker traps his arm while climbing down Blue John Canyon (Utah).

After 5 days and 7 hours, he frees himself by amputating his own arm with a blunt knife.

After he freed himself, he rappels down a 65 foot cliff to reach safety.








Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571
1972

Also known as Andes Flight Disaster, this plane carrying 45 people, including a Rugby team, their friends and families crashes into the Andes.

Resorting to cannibalism and enduring 72-days in the mountains, 16 survivors were rescued.
